'STLS' SCULPTURE
by Tanika Jellis
A commanding sculptural form by Sydney-based ceramic artist Tanika Jellis, STLS embodies the quiet tension between object and artefact.
Hand-built using traditional coiling techniques, the piece is formed through a slow, intuitive process layer upon layer allowing the clay to dictate subtle shifts in rhythm, contour, and balance. The resulting silhouette feels both grounded and organic, with a presence that anchors a space while remaining inherently fluid.
Crafted from glazed stoneware with accents of gold, STLS carries a rich materiality its surface alive with tonal variation, reflecting the unpredictable dialogue between fire, glaze, and form.
Jellis’ practice sits at the intersection of sculpture and function, though works such as this lean decisively into the sculptural existing as contemplative forms designed to interact with light, architecture, and the objects that surround them.
Each piece is entirely unique, bearing the marks of its making and the artist’s hand.
