UNDER THE MANGO TREE #2
by Tanika Jellis

A sculptural ceramic table or stool that exists between furniture and functional artwork, Under the Mango Tree #02 by Tanika Jellis explores the relationship between form, surface and the quiet presence of handmade objects within the home.

Hand-built from stoneware using slab construction, the piece reveals the rhythm of the artist’s making through its organic silhouette, subtle variations and tactile glazed surface. Fired in a reduction gas kiln, the final finish is shaped by the unpredictable atmosphere of the firing process, creating a one-of-a-kind surface with depth, movement and natural variation.

Drawing from her fascination with the natural world, architecture and the relationship between objects and their surroundings, Jellis creates works that are designed to be lived with as much as they are admired. Under the Mango Tree #04 balances sculptural presence with practical function — a considered piece that can serve as a stool, side table or standalone object within an interior.

Each work in the Under the Mango Tree series is unique, celebrating the individuality of hand-built ceramics and the inherent beauty of material imperfection.
