THE FRUITS OF THE GARDEN by Jacques Vilet

THE FRUITS OF THE GARDEN

1992-1995

'I set the table to eat. Everything is normal. During the meal, I put an apple in this decor, to photograph it. Doubts and torments begin. We suspect the artifice! The objects should have been deposited without knowing that they would be transfigured by an objective. So, let's play frank. I isolate myself in a corner of my workshop. I place a background paper, but not just any. I put down an apple, but not just any one. I bring, if necessary, lighting. This is called a Still Life. Quiet Life, or Coite Life, it would be so much better.'
